The Markham Teen Arts Council was founded in February of 2008, and is a committee of the Markham Arts Council.
With an ever-growing membership, teens across the Town of Markham join the Markham Teen Arts Council (MTAC) united in the common goal to raise awareness of the unknown youth talent and offer insight into what the average teen artists are capable of. The Markham Arts Council is dedicated to nurturing and supporting the talents of these teens our future members, whose goal is to continue the cultural heritage that we are so proud of.
The current Executive for the MTAC is comprised of teens from across the region. The Executive meet every other week, usually at the Markham Arts Council office on Main Street, Unionville. The entire council is made up of representatives from Markville Secondary School, St. Augustine's Catholic School, Pierre Elliott Trudeau High School, Milliken Mills High School, St. Roberts Catholic High School, Middlefield C.I., Bur Oak Secondary School, Father Michael McGiveny Catholic High School, Thornhill Secondary School, Thornlea Secondary School, Unionville High School and Markham District High School.
MTAC members can often be seen volunteering at the Markham Arts Council booth during such festivals and events like the Unionville Festival, Taste of Asia, Milliken Children's Festival, Thornhill Village Festival and Applefest to name a few.
MTAC has produced a variety of events and showcases for the teen community. Those include a 24-Hour Video Challenge, Photo Contests, Music & Lyrics Contest and the new WordUp! Literary Showcase.
The current Executive is co-chaired by:
Jocelynn Rennie and Andrea Vitopoulos
