Mission Statement:
The Markham Arts Council is dedicated to enhancing the community, by promoting and fostering the arts in all its forms in the Town of Markham.
Committees:
We have a number of working committees. If you are interested in
participating, please contact the office at 905-947-9054. The following
committees have been formed by members of the Board of Directors along with
other member volunteers:
- Membership
- Marketing & Promotion (newsletter)
- Mackie Awards
- Fundraising
- Education & Seminars
- Markham Youth Arts Council
Milestone and Accomplishments:
- Received two Trillium Grants
- Publish a quarterly newsletter Arts
in Motion
- Publish an annual Arts Directory
- Received Charitable Status in March 2008
- Hold several seminars each year
- Hold an annual Photo contest
- Attended several festivals and events throughout the summer months
- Arts & Tea series at the Varley Art Gallery
- Hold regular Arts Mixers at member venues
- Helped to start the Markham Youth Arts Council
- Produced a new Membership brochure
- Work with the Town of Markham and York Region on Cultural Mapping
- Planning a Poetry contest in 2009
- Current membership (as of August 2008) is 205
- The Markham Arts Council has established itself as the leading Arts Council in York Region
