Job Description

The Markham Teen Arts Council (MTAC) is a sub-organization of the Markham Arts Council (MAC). The MTAC Representative is a Board Member from MAC who acts as a liaison between the two Councils.  The responsibilities of the MTAC Representative includes advising the students and ensuring that they follow their and MAC’s mandate in fostering a thriving arts culture amongst the youth in the City of Markham.

Following are a set of responsibilities and skills that are needed to be successful in this role.


  • Act as a liaison between MAC and MTAC; inform students of any updates from MAC
    • MAC representative also ensure there is active participation from MTAC for any MAC programming
  • Attend Bi-weekly MTAC meetings on Sundays from 11-12:30 pm
  • Advise Co-Chairs on how to lead the Executive Council and advise Co-Chairs on how create appropriate job descriptions for roles on the Executive Council
  • Work with Co-Chairs to create a strategic plan for MTAC outreach (including outreach, events, sponsorship)
  • Assist students with organization of events, including making payments for any purchases and booking venues for events
  • Advise students on how to maintain viable budget for their annual programming; budget needs to be approved by MTAC Representative before students can proceed forward with programming
  • Advise students on how to find sponsorship for their programming
  • Advise students on how to execute successful events as part of their annual programming
  • Advise students on appropriate content for their online platform and edit/approve content as needed
  • Guide students on appropriate protocol for running meetings


What we are looking for …

  • An advisor who has a passion for working with youth and the arts
  • An advisor who is able to commit at a minimum between 3-5+ hours a week (commitment to students will increase substantially during upcoming events involved)
  • Experience in working with youth is a definite asset
